Genus Thliptodon Boas, 1886

The genus Thliptodon is composed of five species; T. gegenbauri is the type species.

This is a small, naked pelagic snail, smaller than 2 cm long, with a mainly transparent body that only shows the visceral mass through the body wall. The wings are well developed or small, implanted laterally in the barrel-shaped body. The posterior and lateral footlobes are sometimes separate (Thliptodon genus).
