Genus Cardiapoda

Genus Cardiapoda d'Orbigny, 1836

Cardiapoda is composed of two species. Cardiapoda placenta is the type species.

This is a rather large naked, pelagic snail, up to 5 cm long, with a mainly transparent body. The very small shell is embedded in the visceral nucleus. Only the broad rounded visceral mass is darkly pigmented, the large eyes with black retina and the mouth organs are also clearly seen. The intestine is frequently full and visible. The body is long and cylindrical, with one swimming fin (Cardiapoda placenta).
