Group Pelagic

Group Pelagic Molluscs

The Mollusca treated in this programme are exclusively pelagic species. For the higher group taxonomy in the Mollusca the system proposed by Taylor and Sohl (1962) is followed. The groups treated are indicated in the following media clip (Pelagic Molluscs overview).

Pelagic Mollusca are considered here to comprise the pteropods, heteropods, janthinids, and a few nudibranchs. Two larval molluscs, Planktomya henseni and 'Beaked larva', are given in this programme as they are frequently met in studies on pelagic molluscs. The Cephalopoda are not included as they are mainly nektonic in their behaviour.
