the alimentary system in molluscs can be subdivided into: the buccal mass for food uptake, the oesophagus and gizzard for food transport and mechanical digestion, the stomach and liver for chemical digestion and the intestine for absorption and faeces formation. Gizzard plates are sometimes found in the gizzar; they function as teeth by crushing the food.
