the type is the specimen on which first the description of the species is based. When only one specimen was available (or was indicated) it is the holotype. The specimens of the original series other than the holotype are the paratypes. When the holotype is not indicated the whole series are syntypes. When in a later publication the 'holotype' is indicted it is a lectotype, and so are paralectotypes later indicated specimens of the original series. When the status of the original material is unknown the expression 'types' is used in this programme.
