Genus Firoloida

Genus Firoloida Lesueur, 1817

Firoloida is monospecific. This is a medium sized, naked pelagic snail, up to 4 cm long, with a mainly transparent body. Only the broad oval visceral mass is a darkly pigmented, the large eyes, with black retina, and the mouth organs are also clearly seen. The intestine is frequently full and visible. The body is very long and cylindrical with one swimming fin. There is no tail but in females the egg ribbon may be attached resembling a 'tail' (Firoloida desmaresti).
